Summary
Duration of the Project: 04/02/2007 - 09/02/2007
Place of the Project : Istanbul
Target of the Project : 30 youngsters from Turkey and other European and partner countries
Aim: The project aims to form a platform to discuss and determine the problems of girls who grow up in and about to leave the Child Protection Society, to determine the solutions for these problems and to contribute to personal development of participants through seminars.
Justification: Girls who grove up in Child Protection Societies live in lower standards, have less opportunity either in employment or other aspects of social life. They are not capable of living independently when they have to leave the houses by 18. Due to this and similar problems there is a need for a rehabilitation program to enable the adaptation of the target group to the society. In order to achieve a healthy young generation, these girls need to be given the opportunity to develop and to improve their capacity.
Actions: During the Project, the problems of these girls and solutions for these problems will be discussed extensively and a participatory action plan will be prepared in the workshops. While educational seminars will be given to contribute personal development of the participants, cultural interaction and dialogue will be promoted in solution of problems through dialogue, art and games. "Art as a common language" activity will provide a nice environment for participants to get close and to tell themselves through art. In "Souvenir workshop" participants will prepare gifts for the girls living in Child Protection Societies. A city tour will be organized to introduce Zeytinburnu and Istanbul to the participants.
Preparation: We talked to the girls who grow up in Child Protection Societies and to the managers of these societies and learned their thoughts and approach to this kind of a project. We discussed the project, its possible affects and the necessary aid with specialists and their contributions to the project. Volunteers who worked on this topic have been gathered and the topic has been discussed. Similar works have been examined.
Results: Participants will prepare a presentation indicating possible solutions discussed during the workshops. The presentation will be given in a meeting to which Minister of State Nimet Çubukçu will be invited. Communication will be provided after the project ends through e-group and web-page. Projects of this kind will be promoted through keeping the subject on agenda and maintaining the communication.
